Today I’m heading to the big city. The packing is easy. The tent is dry, the air is warm.
Thanks to a few followers on social media, I found accommodation at the last minute in Brisbane. A fellow bikepacker is happy to host me, and another one is offering to meet me halfway and ride with me so that I take the best route. I discover that Brisbane has an extensive network of cycling lanes which is to me even better than Canberra.
Neil joins me, rides with me and buys me lunch. It’s a very pleasant ride through parks, with a detour near the CBD before we head north to Wayne’s place. Neil is very pleasant company and great escort.
I’m happy to see that I don’t have too much trouble keeping up with Neil despite the fact that riding a fully loaded bike and he isn’t.
Arriving at Wayne house, things keep on getting better. I get my own bathroom and a huge bedroom. In exchange of that I just have to cook the pasta and warm up the Bolognaise sauce so that it’d ready for when the kids and Wayne come back from footy training. It’s a funny thing to do, cook in someone’s kitchen when I met that person only 2 hours ago, but I guess he knows me quite well from my blog and updates on social media.
I’m here for 6 days, and the next day will be devoted to improving the bike setup. There are now too many bags hanging all over it. It looks messy but I’m also constantly tightening up all sort of straps and velcro so that equipment does not rub on the wheels. It’s a huge waste of time and source of frustration. Also, getting a new piece of equipment can help with motivation. I get excited to try it.
