The 10th of June – Mungungo to Cania Gorge via Monto

I sleep in this morning. I keep dreaming that I wake up, and then I fall back to sleep again. After 11 hours, I eventually wake up for good.
Once again I have to work out where my food parcel is, it’s supposed to have made its way to a Caravan park. I try to call them on the phone but I don’t have enough reception. Fortunately I can get onto the internet, and a friend of mine helps me out. The parcel didn’t get picked up by the Caravan park. Through some misunderstanding, the parcel is waiting in another small town, Monto, which is really not that far away.

After an energetic ride, I get to Monto, pick up my parcel and have a late breakfast or early lunch. I repack my food throw away the cheese that I don’t like. I had prepared the parcel months ago and since then I’ve discovered that I can’t eat some of the items in it.

On the road again, I head toward Cania Gorge on a quiet gravel and dirt road. I ride at an astonishing pace. All the sleep I had and all the sugar and food are working wonderfully well. In no time I reach the first caravan park. I am told there is Internet, but only via satellite on the computer in the reception lobby. I had promised my girlfriend I would have Internet, so I ride another 8km off track to the second one. It’s a family caravan park with swimming pool and tennis court. It’s very expensive and overkill. I don’t need all that. I enquire about the swimming pool. It is not heated but they turn on the pumps after I asked about it so that I can go for a swim and maybe go down the water slide. I give it a go but it’s just too slow.

There is an outdoor movie night planned but the movie does not look great. Shame, I like the concept. I chat with some other people holidaying in the camp kitchen. Sometimes they don’t have a clue about the Bicentennial National Trail and what is involved in riding off road for months. Some other people have heard of it and do share my enthusiasm and the chatting becomes very interesting and entertaining.
